Adele and Bruno Mars are both rolling in major Grammy nominations, with each lined up to compete for album, record and song of the year at the Feb. 12 bash. Both crooners earned six nominations, which were announced Wednesday (Nov. 30) during a primetime concert special featuring a pair of performances by Lady Gaga.

Kanye West actually leads the pack with seven total nominations, namely for the song "All of the Lights," but his album "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" was omitted from best album contention and "Lights" was left off the coveted Record of the Year list.

Foo Fighters also racked up six nominations, most notably for Album of the Year for "Wasting Light." Also up for top album honors, aside from Adele's "21" and Mars' "Doo-Wops & Hooligans,"  is Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" and Rihanna's "Loud."

Bon Iver, the indie-folk troubadour who lent his vocals to much of West's "Twisted Fantasy," was an early surprise in the hour-long show with his nomination for Record of the Year for "Holocene." The track was nominated moments later for Song of the Year, with Iver also finding himself up for Best New Artist against fellow West collaborator Nicki Minaj, Skrillex, J. Cole and The Band Perry.

Though rock represented well in the nominations, the night's performances were heavy on hip-hop and country, with the genres colliding when Jason Aldean and Ludacris took the stage. The duo performed "Dirt Road Anthem" complete with trademark cowboy hat and black sunglasses, respectively.

This year's concert was also an international affair, cutting to London's O2 Arena for Rihanna's performance of "We Found Love" -- a rave-inspired track that draws on production from the UK's own Calvin Harris. Whatever her location, the Barbados-born singer showed her true colors with a red, white and blue striped outfit.

The Band Perry offered a performance for a different sort of dance floor, with the nominated country trio playing "Independence" and a cover of Tom Petty's "Free Fallin'" back in the Nokia Theatre. Then it was back to rap: hip-hop legend Grandmaster Flash led an all-star performance of the iconic track "The Message," which featured verses from  Common, Lupe Fiasco, LL Cool J, Melle Mel and Scorpio. It felt like the only MC missing among the all-male ensemble was Nicki Minaj, who was spotted dancing in the audience.

Later, Usher, Valerie Simpson and Mike Stoller performed a heartfelt tribute to late songwriters Nick Ashford and Jerry Leiber, the songwriters responsible for hits including "You're All I Need To Get By" and "Stand by Me," respectively. Usher offered a soulful take on both, duetting with Simpson on the former and getting piano backing from the two songwriters on the second song.

The night of collaborations concluded with Lady Gaga (showcasing her country chops) and Sugarland taking on Mother Monster's "You and I." Gaga, in a black dress and pounding her piano, looked restrained by her standards until she turned to the cameras, revealing exaggerated black eye makeup as well suited to a Batman villain or "Black Swan" as the Nokia Theatre. Gaga earned a mere three nominations on Wednesday night, but by the time the song faded out, there was no doubting who was queen of the stage.

The 54th Grammys will be held Feb. 12 in Los Angeles on CBS. The academy has trimmed down the amount of categories from 109 to 78 this year. On the chopping block, Zydeco and Cajun music, to name a few. Gender-specific awards in vocal categories were also done away with in favor of single competitions for pop, R&B and country.

After Michael Buble's "Christmas" album squeaked past Nickelback's "Here and Now" to claim the No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200 this past week, it would see Mr. Buble isn't going anywhere soon.

His "Christmas" set should easily hold down the top slot on the chart next week, suggest industry sources -- and perhaps for the rest of the year. While it's too early to tell what the album may sell in the tracking week that ends on Sunday, Dec. 4, it's expected to get bigger. This past week, the album moved 227,000 according to Nielsen SoundScan.


No titles are forecasted to debut in the top 10 next week, with seemingly only Trey Songz's "Inevitable" EP and Hot Chelle Rae's "Whatever" on course for top 30 arrivals. Most of the biggest albums of 2011 have already taken a bow, hence why there is little threat to Buble's reign at No. 1.

Justin Bieber has said that he wants to pull a Justin Timberlake on his next album. So what exactly does that mean? His longtime vocal producer, Kuk Harrell, spoke to MTV News about the early stages of Bieber's next release.

"The only conversation we've had about Justin's album that we're about to do is it's really important that it's the proper transition because we've seen him [with] 'Baby,' now we're watching him grow up," said Harrell, who has also worked with Rihanna on her Talk That Talk record. "And we can't just throw him into the adult game right away. It has to be the proper transition. There's a record in between."
With further details on this next album being kept under wraps, Bieber is busy celebrating the holidays. He's slated to release his video for "All I Want for Christmas," co-starring Mariah Carey, on Wednesday. Harrell worked with Bieber on his Under the Mistletoe LP and says agreeing to do a Christmas album with the teen phenomenon was an easy yes.
"That's why I think this Christmas album was really important because it gave everybody the opportunity to hear him, see him and get used to his voice changing," he said. "That was a huge thing going into this album. We were able to get a running start on where he's at vocally 'cause it's a natural thing. When his proper album comes out, everybody's going to really be looking at that."
What will be noticeably different on this next album, which was teased on his holiday album, is that Bieber's voice will be much deeper. So does Harrell think it'll be changing a lot more for this next record? "I think he's pretty good right now," he said. "It's just a matter of him settling [into] where he is."
Regardless of what magic does end up making the final cut on this album, which Bieber has said may include work from Drake and Kanye West, Harrell notes that the 17-year-old is "always willing to bring a new fire.

Electronic Arts' has rounded up top UK music talent to take part in a Celebrity Need for Speed' racing tournament.

In this gaming version of ʻBattle of the Bandsʼ, JLS, Rizzle Kicks, Loick Essien, Labrinth and Starboy Nathan are seen playing Need for Speed': The Run against the clock, in a series of filmed gaming sessions recording their lap times.

So far Loick Essien, Starboy Nathan and Rizzle Kicks have been at the wheel and the Brighton boys are topping the leader board.

This Friday it's the turn of JLS, so tune into the Need for Speed Facebook page to see if they can steel Rizzle Kicks' racing crown.

Nero, one of the biggest names in dance music, release their brand new single Reaching Out on 19th December.

Reaching Out is taken from their #1 album Welcome Reality which recently hit Gold, driven by the hit singles Me & You, Guilt and the Promises (which also reached #1 in the UK single charts).

Reaching Out, released on Chase & Status' label MTA Records, samples a Hall & Oates classic and was Hottest Record In The World on Zane Lowe's Radio 1 show on Wednesday 2nd November. This year has been an incredible year for Nero ' they are the only British dance act of 2011 to have a #1 album and Promises was the first ever UK dubstep #1 single. Nero were recently nominated for Best New Act at the prestigious Q Awards last month.

The band played some of the UK's biggest festivals this summer including Glastonbury, Bestival, Reading and Wireless to name a few, as well selling out their first headline UK tour in October, which included a show-stopping performance at the Electric Ballroom on 18th October. Adele has been using a special phone application to help her speak.
The British singer underwent surgery on her throat a few weeks ago and has been told to rest her voice by doctors.
She loves talking to friends though, so has come up with a novel way to ensure she is still heard. Adele has downloaded a special application on her phone which says anything she types in out loud.
'She's been using the speaking app to buy coffee at Starbucks and to order cabs,' a source explained to British newspaper The Sun.
'It is far easier to communicate using it rather than writing everything down on paper and showing people.'
Adele had a vocal cord haemorrhage which was operated on in Boston, America, in early November. She is still in the city as she recuperates, but has assured fans the surgery was a success.
'I have absolutely no choice but to recuperate properly and fully, or I risk damaging my voice forever,' the star explained.
The 23-year-old singer has previously been forced to cancel shows due to her illness.
It was recently reported she will return to the stage next month on British talent programme The X Factor, where she will apparently sing with one of the finalists.

Bono was 'terrified' the first time he met Alicia Keys.
The U2 star was supporting Alicia yesterday at the premiere of her documentary, Keep a Child Alive with Alicia Keys.
The film follows Alicia and five Americans as they travel to South Africa during last year's soccer World Cup.
It airs on the Showtime channel on December 1, which is World AIDS Day.
Bono first met the songstress in 2001 when they recorded a cover of Marvin Gaye's classic song What's Going On.
'I was terrified the moment I met her. I was shaking in my boots," he said in an interview with USA Today. "I was very moved by her singing of course, but what was interesting was the hard questions afterwards, and I think it's those hard questions that she asks that lead her.'
Alicia started the charity Keep a Child Alive in 2003. It assists those affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India.
Bono was full of praise for Alicia and said she has "lioness energy".
He said it takes a great deal of intellectual skill to run your own charity successfully.
"Everyone's got heart, but actually you have to have the head for this," he explained. "You have to be tough and strategic, you have to be demanding, the money has to be spent well. So all these things take a certain intellectual rigor."
